Artsfest returns to Birmingham City Centre

The festival returns to fill Birmingham City Centre with hundreds of events and exhibitions over the weekend of Friday 10 until Sunday 12 September.

ArtsFest has something for everyone, from street art to opera, ballet to Bhangra and poetry to rock music. ArtsFest is once again offering audiences of all ages a wealth of amazing opportunities to enjoy a huge range of artistic experiences all for free.

Now in its 13th year, the unique festival attracted well over a quarter of a million people last year to see the hundreds of artists demonstrate their talents. Here’s a taster of some of the hundreds of events that will be happening:

Folk Dance Fest will kick things off on Friday night with folk dancing from around the world.

The popular Classical Fantasia returns again featuring City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Birmingham Opera Company with a spectacular fireworks finale.

Visitors will be able to take part in or watch a Ballet Dancing World Record Attempt as part of Birmingham Royal Ballets 20th anniversary celebrations.

KerrangFest will close the show with an electrifying performance by The Twang in Centenary Square.

Across the weekend there will also be: Dancing for London 2012, which consists of various dancing activity as part of the People Dancing Cultural Olympiad project; The Secret Garden takes place at City Centre Gardens with children and family area with workshops, performances and activities linking to The Rep's forthcoming Secret Garden production and the Much Wenlock Community games; The Land of Fairytales is a variety of Street Performance and activity hosted by Birmingham Hippodrome; ShortCuts film programme at The Crescent Theatre; ArtSpace which is an art fair in Victoria Square; Art on the Railings in Centenary Square and a Craft Market in New Street.
